England took on Scotland in their group match of Euro 2020 earlier this week.

But despite the excitement surrounding the build-up to the game, it turned out to be something of a damp squib.

So when Gary Lineker offered his praise for the 0-0, lots of people online were left a touch confused and wondering if the ex-England striker had been watching the same game as them.

During the match, he tweeted: "Game of the tournament so far. Absolute thriller."

And as sure as night follows day, the social media manager for Specsavers jumped at the opportunity to have a pop.

Commenting on the 60-year-old's tweet, they quipped: "Give us a call."

What are they like?

Similarly shocked by the remark, thousands of his followers piled into the comments to ask the former Barcelona player what he was on about.

One user put: "My favourite part was when something almost happened."

Another chimed in: "Stop hyping rubbish! That was an awful game."

"Yeah 0-0, great game," sighed a third.

While another asked: "Were you watching the same game as the rest of us, Gary?"

Now, in case, like the above, you had missed it, it seems as though Lineker was perhaps being a little tongue-in-cheek with his comments.

I mean, it was a truly drab affair and it would be surprising if an experienced footballer and pundit such as him hadn't noticed that.

The most entertaining stuff actually happened before a ball was even kicked, with Scotland fans descending on London to watch the game.

And one fan clearly couldn't contain his excitement ahead of the team's Euros match, having been filmed sliding through a puddle in Leicester Square.

The footage was posted on Twitter by a user called Alex (@mralexthfc), who wrote: "Scotland fans in Leicester square."

In the caption, he added a facepalm emoji and one of a face crying with laughter.

The video shows a topless football fan splashing his way through a run-up along a wet pavement, as onlookers cheer him on.

He then launches himself onto the floor and slides through the puddle, while the crowd gathered around him cheers.

The video racked up more than 14,000 likes and more than 1,700 retweets, along with countless comments from impressed social media users.

One said: "Scotland sliding out of Euro 2020 tonight like....."

Another - more supportive - person wrote: "Seems like the Scots are havin a good party, love them."
