Tiger Woods Historic Comeback After Many Wrote Him Off Is The Inspiration We All Need

Tiger Woods Historic Comeback After Many Wrote Him Off Is The Inspiration We All Need

Struggling for some inspiration this week? Here's Tiger Woods watching footage of everyone in golf writing him off...

As far as tales of sporting redemption go, Tiger Woods' return to golf's top table with victory at the PGA Tour Championship is right up there.

Countless personal problems, a whole load of surgery, and then - finally - victory again. Everyone was rooting for Tiger to come good again, and now he has.

That's not only a great achievement for a golfer who is pretty universally regarded as the best ever, but also a big old backhand square to the face of a load of people who wrote him off.

Not that he's got too much mind to do that, you'd have to imagine. 2018 Tiger is a quieter, more reflective soul following his many tribulations.

Over the past five years Tiger has had to endure all sorts of personal trials, but also professional ones too as everyone and their aunt decided to write him off without considering the idea that he might be able to turn it around and make them eat their words.

Well guess what guys? He's back. On top of that, he's off to Le Golf National in Paris at the end of this week to take part in the Ryder Cup once again. That's a fantastic achievement given what he's been through.

It all began back in 2013 when he was last in the winners' circle. He triumphed at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. That was his 79th tour victory.

It was as good as it would get for a long while. A string of back injuries led to several surgeries. Along the way he posted the highest score ever in his career - 13 over par over the course of a day at the Memorial Tournament in 2015.

More and more surgical interventions were performed, before he finally had his spine fused in 2017. Throughout that time Woods has also been treated for sex and substance addiction, divorced his wife, and been found asleep at the wheel of his car, dazed by the sheer amount of medication taken to ease his back.

That's what makes this story of redemption one of the best. Woods has made mistakes, he's been a victim of circumstance, and still he's retained the desire to bounce back, despite being wealthy enough to never pick up a golf club ever again.

Now, with this latest win, he's back at the top of the game. That could be bad news for some other players in golf, starting with whoever faces off against him for Europe this weekend.

It's definitely good news for the sport, however.
