WWE's Rey Mysterio appeared to have had one of his eyes removed at the hands of Seth Rollins, resulting in the Monday Night Messiah 'vomiting' by the ring.

It was part of the 'Eye for an Eye' match, one of the rules of which states that the match could only end if one of the men had their eye extracted.

Rollins was victorious after viciously jamming the luchador's eye straight into the corner of the steps that lead up to the ring.

The Master of the 619' rolled around in pain, holding his 'eye' in his hand. The ringside doctors ran to help, along with Rey's son Dominik. Rollins grimaced at what he'd done, before dramatically throwing up.

WWE said that Mysterio was then rushed to hospital to be treated for a 'potential globe luxation'.

The official info read: "Medical experts were optimistic that if the optic nerve is not severed and there is not too much strain on the blood vessels and nerves that connect the eye to the rest of the head, there's a chance Mysterio can maintain his vision."

It was hoped by fans that the match would be 'cinematic', with the Boneyard and Firefly Funhouse matches taking place in the empty arena era of lockdown restrictions.

To many people's disappointment though, there wasn't much blood and a prop eye was used for the injury.

Fans of WWE reacted to the segment at 'The Horror Show', with people saying it might just be one of the weirdest things the promotion has ever done.

However, the spot resulted in minimal blood and a prop eye was used to sell the injury.

It's believed that Mysterio has been working with the organisation without a contract for the last few months. The three-time champion rejoined WWE in 2018 after he had spent three years away from the company.

He has also gone on to win the United States Championship twice, as well as facing Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series 2019.

But after 'unsuccessful' negotiations, he is still not under an official contract.

Mysterio was slated to appear on the June 29 edition of Raw to confront current rival Seth Rollins with his son Dominik, but the appearance was from home instead.
