Apple has just announced the arrival of its new iPhone.

The second generation iPhone SE is purportedly the tech giant's most affordable model yet, but is claimed to be no less powerful.

Unveiling the phone on its website, Apple says it will set customers back at least $399 (£419) and is available for pre-order from 17 April.

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said that despite the 'compact design' the SE still packs a punch, boasting a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, as well as both the fastest smartphone chip in the world and best camera ever for an iPhone.

Basically, it's like having an iPhone 11 in an iPhone 8's body.

The new iPhone SE boasts the best camera ever for an iPhone.

Dropping the new mobile, Mr Schiller said: "The first iPhone SE was a hit with many customers who loved its unique combination of small size, high-end performance and affordable price; the new second-generation iPhone SE builds on that great idea and improves on it in every way - including our best-ever single-camera system for great photos and videos - while still being very affordable.

"iPhone SE features the industry-leading performance of A13 Bionic that enables great battery life, takes stunning Portrait mode and Smart HDR photos, shoots amazing videos with stereo audio, is great for games and super fast web surfing, and is built with the same industry-leading security features our customers expect. We can't wait to get iPhone SE into customers' hands."

However, while the iPhone 11 used face recognition, the new SE is a Touch ID-based handset and comes with the classic home button.

And if you're a snapper, then there's great news for you because it comes complete with all six Portrait Lighting effects and Depth Control.

Apple also claims that videos are 'even more immersive' in this model, 'with stereo audio recording and cinematic video stabilisation on the front and rear cameras'.

While the 'rear camera supports high-quality video capture at 4K up to 60fps, and extended dynamic range... for more highlight details up to 30fps'.

But if that wasn't enough, the glass back means that the water-resistant portable can also use Qi wireless charging - which will give your phone a 50 percent boost in just 30 minutes.

And the super-fast A13 Bionic chip, Apple says, is the most powerful of any smartphone ever which, along with a dedicated 8-core Neural Engine capable of 5 trillion operations per second, will provide top performance for longer.

The Apple iPhone SE is available to pre-order from Friday 17 April.
