Facebook Desktop Design Is Changing For Good From 1 September

It's not been universally popular among users

If you're someone who uses Facebook - and given that it's got one billion users, there's a good chance you are - you might have noticed a couple of changes of late.

Well, the winds of change are indeed blowing around the world's largest social media app, and as of next month, it's going to be the 'new normal'.

The changes will apply to the desktop version, and will see the entire main page getting an overhaul. It's actually been slowly rolled out since May, but from next month it'll be there for everyone.

The most noticeable things you'll spot are a much more minimal design and a new colour scheme.

The top of the page has shifted from the familiar blue to white, and includes light grey symbols for the News Feed, Messenger, Watch, Groups, Marketplace and Notifications tabs.

You might spot a slight logo redesign as well, with the famous F now in a circle coloured in a lighter blue.

Facebook Stories have moved across from the right of the page to the very top, and are now represented by rectangles rather than circles.

It'll take a bit of getting used to, but change is inevitable, particularly when it comes to this sort of thing.

Naturally, some people have been initially reluctant to accept the changes.

One person commented: "This Facebook redesign might give me the final push just to delete the stupid thing."

Another disgruntled user added: "Whoever worked on Facebook's redesign needs sacking. Yuck."

A third said: "A great feature of the new Facebook redesign is that I find it so dang unappealing I want to leave the second I arrive."

Well, whatever you think about it, you'd better be used to the new layout by 1 September, because from then it's all you'll be able to use if you are accessing Facebook on a computer.

However, until that time there is a sneaky way that you can access the old-style Facebook before it gets confined to the dustbin of history.

If you head on over to the main page, then click the small arrow up there in the top right corner, you'll see an option above the 'Log Out' link that will switch everything back to the old layout.

However, you've only got slightly more than a week to enjoy that luxury, so you might as well just accept the changes and move on.
