Facebook Messenger has gone down across much of Europe, leaving millions of users unable to send messages.

If you're one of the people struggling to get online to find out the answer to a vital question, find out about some juicy gossip, or just receive a fresh batch of spicy memes, you're not alone.

It turns out that loads of people across the whole continent of Europe are experiencing exactly the same problems with Facebook Messenger, as well as the actual Facebook site and Instagram.

Heaven knows how we'll cope with this. It might even result in an actual human conversation.

Did you just shudder and feel a chill up your spine at the very thought? Well, fear not, the boffins will be hard at work to avoid that dark timeline becoming a reality.

According to Down Detector - a website that tracks user reports of problems with apps, services, and providers - the issues started off at around 9am and have affected loads of users in the UK and mainland Europe.

While we can't say exactly what is wrong with it, 80 percent of those reporting a problem said they were unable to send or receive messages, whereas 20 percent of those who complained said they couldn't even log in.

Obviously, people have been turning to the other social media platforms that are still working to complain about the problems.

One person on Twitter asked: "Is Facebook Messenger down? I cannot send and receive messages!"

Another said: "Either Facebook messenger is down on my phone or my wifi is extremely poor this morn. Let me text my friends back!"

A third wrote: "Yeah so Facebook messenger be down or I'm really trippin."

As well as Messenger being on the fritz, Down Detector has also issued warnings for Facebook and Instagram too, although those appear to be less widespread.
