Mum 'Reunited' With Dead Daughter Via Virtual Reality Headset

A mum from South Korea has been 'reunited' with her dead daughter via a virtual reality headset.

Jang Ji-sung appeared on a documentary titled I Met You in which a futuristic VR world was created in which she could 'meet' her little girl Nayeon, who died three years ago when she was just seven.

The documentary aired on Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, which shared a heartbreaking clip on YouTube.

In the clip, Jang can be seen wearing the VR headset while in a green screen room. The film then cuts to what she is seeing - her little girl rushing towards her.

According to a report in AJU Business Daily, the VR Nayeon asks: "Where have you been, Mum? Did you think about me?"

To which Jang responded: "I do all the time."

The pair then both say they missed each other. Jang reaches out to touch her little girl, while wearing specially designed gloves - and the pair walk about together before even sitting at a table set up with a birthday cake.

As the clip goes on Jang becomes visibly emotional as do onlookers, including members of her family.

According to the publication, the team spent eight months working on the project and used motion capture technology to record a child actor to ensure 'Nayeon' moved as a child would.

They also created a virtual park, which was based on a real-life park the mother and daughter had visited before she died.

Jang said: "Maybe it's a real paradise. I met Nayeon, who called me with a smile, for a very short time, but it's a very happy time. I think I've had the dream I've always wanted."

The mum told the news outlet, she agreed to do the documentary to offer comfort to 'someone who has lost a child like me, or who has lost a brother or parent'.

On a blog about her experiences, which has since been taken down, Jang wrote: "Three years later, I now think I should love her more than miss her and feel sick, so that I can be confident when I meet her later. I hope many people will remember Nayeon after watching the show."
