Qualcomm's Quick Charge 5 Promises Full Charge In 15 Minutes

Remember all those times when you're just about to leave the house and your phone pings to tell you it's got less than 10 percent battery left? Or it dies just as you're trying to order an Uber home after a night out.

Well, those mishaps could soon be a thing of the past because Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has created what they claim to be the fastest commercial charging technology for Android devices.

The Quick Charge 5 promises to deliver unprecedented mobile phone charging speed and efficiency improvements compared to previous versions while enabling new accessories and safety features.

It's engineered to allow users to charge devices from 0 to 50 percent battery power in just five minutes and to full charge in 15 minutes - representing the fastest mobile phone charging capabilities available.

Zhang Lei, hardware R&D general manager at Chinese tech firm Xiaomi, added: "Quick Charge solutions are widely available in a variety of mobile devices. The latest generation of Quick Charge 5 not only provides superior charging capabilities but helps intelligently extend a device's battery life and reduce thermal output

"Xiaomi has always been committed to proactively driving the adoption of new technologies and accelerating the fulfillment of enhanced experiences. In the future, more Xiaomi users will be able to enjoy high-speed, safe and superior charging experiences enabled by Quick Charge 5."

Quick Charge 5 is currently sampling with customers and is expected to appear in commercial devices in Q3 2020

People are clearly pretty excited about the news, with one writing: "Phones at 5 percent, put it on the charger, take a poop, shower, get dressed. You'll be at 55-80 percent probably. Not bad."

Well, when you put it that way, it does sounds ideal.
