Skydiver's iPhone Survives 10,000 Foot Fall After Falling Out During Jump

That's some serious durability

A skydiver who dropped his phone out of his trousers while chucking himself out of a plane was amazed to discover the phone still worked when he found it on the ground.

Seriously, they should put that on one of Apple's adverts. It's some properly impressive durability.

Kody Madro, 31, is a daredevil, snowboarder and skydiver who enjoys throwing himself out of aeroplanes at great heights.

Each to their own, I guess.

However, even the most experienced skydiver can still have small accidents. Sometimes they are really costly, but sometimes you just forget that you put your smartphone into a ripped pocket of your pants.

If it ever happens to you, hope it's that last one.

Anyway, back in January 2020 when Kody was on one of his skydiving trips in Arizona, his iPhone came out of his pants and started freefalling right along with him.

When he eventually landed safely on the ground, Kody had a cursory glance at the Find My iPhone app to see if he could locate it, and - remarkably - he could.

Sure, it was a bit bashed up, and the screen was smashed in pretty badly too, but it worked for a full two weeks after the incident.

That's more than enough time to get all of the important stuff off there such as photos and videos.

The whole thing was captured on video by one of Kody's mates, who initially thought a piece of his rig had come loose and potentially caused him to be in peril.

Mercifully, that wasn't the case, and he just ended up with a battered up mobile device.

Speaking to MailOnline, Kody explained: "It was filmed about a year ago in Eloy, Arizona. I usually don't take my cell phone and if I do it's never been an issue in my pocket except those pants had ripped earlier in the day.

"So when my cell phone flew out, my buddy actually thought a piece of my skydive rig flew off.

"His face was priceless as I was looking back at him, I didn't realise my phone was gone until I landed.

"I used find my iPhone to locate it In the desert.

"I used the phone for another couple weeks before it eventually conked out."

Well, at least his rig wasn't broken, and Apple have got a new claim that they can use to sell more iPhones to daredevils.
