Tourist Stuck On Glacier Records Message For Mum Just Like Scene From 127 Hours

People are saying Eitan Shaked's accident reminds them of the true story behind 2010 film, 127 hours

A tourist has been left feeling incredibly lucky after he narrowly escaped death following an accident in Argentina, in which he recorded a desperate message for his mum just like the scene from 127 Hours. Take a look below:

Eitan Shaked was visiting the Ojo del Albino glacier in southern Argentina, which is thought to be one of the coldest glaciers in the world.

However, a freak accident resulted in Eitan fracturing his pelvis and one of his arms.

To make matters worse, the 23-year-old also developed hypothermia as he waited 24 hours for help to arrive.

Thankfully, he managed to get a message out despite the dodgy mobile connection, which a local rescuer eventually picked up.

Gut-wrenching footage of what Eitan thought was his final moments has now gone viral on Instagram, showing the terrified tourist pleading with his rescuers to contact his mum.

Alongside the footage he wrote: "Those who know me know that I don't like to philosophize on social networks but this time, unfortunately, I have no choice but to write a little more.

"Last Wednesday I went for a walk in Ushuaia and fell about 10 metres. I waited for rescue for a day, disconnected, without taking food or water and also with my pelvis and elbow broken.

“When they found me I was on the verge of death from hypothermia."

Thankfully, Eitan is now being treated at Ushuaia Regional Hospital for his injuries.

Those who are aware of Eitan’s accident have been reminded of the true story behind the 2010 film, 127 Hours, in which Aron Ralston was forced to cut off his own arm after becoming trapped by a boulder in a canyon in Utah.

Eitan has since taken to social media to praise his rescuers and the medical personnel treating him currently.

He said: "I left Israel when I finished my military service. There I decided to go around the world, particularly South America.

"In fact, my dream was to visit Antarctica and Ushuaia, from where I had read a lot of books. But a few days after arriving in Argentina I suffered the accident that I thought would end everything."

He continued: "It's always fun to rediscover how good the human race is. I'm not proud of what happened to me, but I'm glad it ended up that way.

“After I got sick with cancer a few years ago, dealing with death up close for the second time in my life is not an easy thing.

"Take care of yourself and be responsible. A piece of advice for all travellers: Fly on your trip, but try not to fly off your trip."
