Trailer For Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Has Dropped

Trailer For Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to be shown in theatres on 15 April 2022

The first trailer for new Harry Potter film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore has dropped, giving us a first look at Mads Mikkelsen's Grindelwald after he stepped in to replace Johnny Depp. Watch below:

As the name suggests, the threequel will engage fans with Albus Dumbledore's backstory, giving fans a closer look at the adored Hogwarts headmaster.

Warner Bros said of the new movie: "Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world.

"Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers.

"But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?"

Some of the fan-favourites will return in the third Fantastic Beasts movie, including - Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Ezra Miller (Credence/Aurelius Dumbledore), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) and Mads Mikkelsen will debut as Gellert Grindelwald.

Mikkelsen takes over from Johnny Depp, who stepped away from the project after losing his libel case against The Sun.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Mikkelsen explained how his performance will differ to Depp's, saying: "Well it's going to be me, so that's a difference."

He continued: "No, this is the tricky part. We're still working it out. There has to be a bridge between what Johnny did and what I'm going to do. And at the same time, I also have to make it my own.

"But also we have to find a few links [to the previous version of the character] and some bridges so it doesn't completely detach from what he's already masterfully achieved."

Mikkelsen also touched on the fact that he would be taking on the role under extremely unusual circumstances.

He said: "Job-wise, it's obviously super interesting and nice. It's also a shocker that it came after what happened, which is just super sad.

"I wish both of them the best. These are sad circumstances. I hope both of them will be back in the saddle again really soon."

The film will once again be directed by David Yates and will reunite producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, Lionel Wigram and Tim Lewis, along with executive producers Neil Blair, Danny Cohen, Josh Berger and Courtenay Valenti.

The screenplay is written by J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to be released in the UK on 8 April 2022 and 15 April in the US.
