Have you ever dreamed of making it as an Irish filmmaker? Think you might have what it takes to immortalise the rolling hills of this island's stunning North West on camera? You may be in luck as last week the Donegal Film Office release the details of an amazing new opportunity that could help you make this dream become a reality.

The Office has secured funding from Creative Ireland to launch the first Short Film Bursary Award in Donegal. The bursary is described as 'a creative response to showcase the talent in Donegal.' The winner of the bursary will receive a very generous grant of €10,000 towards the cost of the production of a short drama or documentary film of 10-12 min duration. The filmmaker must shoot the feature in Donegal in 2021.

Naturally, there are some criteria that must be met before throwing your name in the hat - you need to have a developed script that has been seen by a director and has had input from a producer. The Office are looking for 'original, entertaining stories by talented filmmakers' who have what it takes to capture the breath-taking vistas Donegal has to offer.

Whether you're capturing the view from the top of Slieve League or expansive shots of the sea front in Bundoran, it's safe to say Donegal has a wide array of backdrops perfect for any aspiring filmmaker. Perhaps the streets of Letterkenny could lend themselves to a local, small-town love story?

Aideen Doherty, of the Donegal Film Office commented: "Working with The National Creative Ireland Programme 2017-2022 to provide this opportunity for filmmakers in Donegal is a priority for the film office.

"Donegal has lots to offer the industry by way of talent, landscapes and services and we look forward to showcasing the end product!"

Applications for the Bursary close on May 14th 2021. If you'd like to apply or learn more about the opportunity you can visit the official website here.
