Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston look set to reprise their roles for a planned sequel to Murder Mystery.

Deadline have revealed that Jeremy Garelick will direct the movie which is the follow up to the 2019 flick that saw Sandler play a cop and Aniston his wife, with the pair's characters going on vacation and getting framed for the murder of an elderly rich guy.

Garelick's attachment to direct rekindles a working relationship with Aniston that last bore fruit with 2006's The Break-Up, for which he was a writer and producer. In fact he's made his name largely as a producer, on films such as The Hangover and Family.

His directorial work has largely been on TV, although he has had notable directorial work on 2018's The Wedding Ringer which starred Kevin Hart and Josh Gad.

Garelick will reportedly be working with a script from Murder Mystery's original writer James Vanderbilt with filming set to take place in Paris and the Caribbean.

For Sandler, if confirmed, it'll continue his successful relationship with Netflix, after his Happy Madison Production company signed a $275 million deal with the streaming giants, making one of the world's best paid actors a whole lot more money.

However, despite largely sticking to his tried and trusted routine of goofy comedy, Sandler's best role with Netlfix has been in Safdie Brothers' Uncut Gems where he played gambling addict Harold Ratner who found himself constantly swimming upstream trying to rectify his losses.

Sandler received critical acclaim for the performance in 2019, but was overlooked for an Oscar - something he noted when picking up an Independent Spirit Award for his performance.

The actor took the mic to accept his award and went straight into his famous Waterboy character Bobby Boucher, telling the crowds: "Hello my name is Adam Sandler... I stand before you trembling with glee as I receive your so-called best actor trophy, independently speaking, of course."

He went on to say: "You know, a few weeks back when I was, quote unquote, snubbed by the Academy, it reminded me of when I briefly attended high school and was overlooked for the coveted yearbook superlative category 'best looking'.

"That accolade was given to a jean jacket wearing, feather-haired douchebag by the name of Skipper Jenkins."

After joking that he was instead given the award for 'best personality', Sandler declared: "The Independent Spirit Awards are the 'best personality' awards of Hollywood.

"Let all those feather-haired mother-f***ers get their Oscars tomorrow night. Their handsome good looks will fade in time. Our independent personalities will shine on forever!"
