Bad Boys for Life has had a successful first weekend at the box office taking in over $68 million, topping that of previous films in the Bad Boys trilogy.

Following on from the immensely popular first film in 1995 and the second movie back in 2003, a fourth film has already announced to be in the pipeline. Fans of the franchise can expect to Will Smith and Martin Lawrence continue with their comedic scrapes with the law as reckless cops in downtown Miami.

This latest film has been recorded as the most successful of the three, according to a recent article by Forbes, taking in over $68 million in its opening weekend compared to Bad Boys II which took $46 million in its opening weekend back in 2003.

The story sees Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) return to the big screen after a 17-year absence.

As well as Smith and Lawrence, Joe Pantaliano returns to the role of Captain Howard, and Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Jacob Scipio and Paola Nuñez all join the cast. In a small guest appearance, DJ Khaled also features as a character called Manny the Butcher.

The first Bad Boys film was released in 1995 and followed lifelong pals Burnett and Lowrey as they attempt to protect a murder witness while investigating the theft of heroin from their own precinct in Miami. the next film Bad Boys II came out eight years later in 2003 and saw the pair attempt to stop more drugs from getting into circulation in Miami.

The official Bad Boys Instagram account had been teasing fans with behind-the-scene photos showing the stars on set. Back in April 2019, the account confirmed filming had wrapped on the movie and since then we've all been (not so) patiently waiting for a trailer.

The new movie has a reported budget of around $100 million (£77.8m) so we can expect some pretty decent stunts and plenty of action.

With a third film in the cinemas, and a fourth one now confirmed, Bad Boys fans can expect to get their fill of Lowrey and Burnett; after all, bad boys are for life.
