It seems like an age since lockdown began, forcing all of our favourite television soaps to stop filming until it was safe to do so again.

Well, Emmerdale is now one of the first shows to get back to work and producers have shared snaps from the set to show what filming looks like with social distancing rules being fully implemented.

The ITV soap posted some snaps to its Instagram account, with one of the show's producers announcing the exciting return and how it would work.

She said: "Hi everyone. So we're back on set today with Emmerdale today, shooting our very special lockdown episodes.

"We're just currently on set with Cain and Aaron, working through our scenes.

"We're social distancing on set and off set, which is not easy but we're getting used to it.

"And I think everybody feels great to be back and we can't wait to make some more new episodes for you. Take care."

In the pictures taken from set, the two actors can be seen keeping their distance from one another while shooting.

Actor Danny Miller, who plays Aaron [Dingle] in the long-running series, took to Twitter following his first day back.

The 29-year-old wrote: "WOW - it was so good to be back in Aaron's house with his lodger.

"The Aaron and Cain episode was the first of the six lockdown episodes to be shot out of that block and under the new structures and rules so everyone was naturally anxious of how and what changes we would face.

"Well I can tell you, the episode is amazing. You're going to love it!"

The actor also praised the work being done by the show's director and production team for getting the series back up and running.

He added: "I would't have wanted to share breaking into this new world of television with many others than my good pal Jeff Hordley [who plays Cain Dingle] - who is incredible in this beautiful episode - written by our very own Adam Sales.

"And all the credit goes to our director @ianbevitt & @emmerdale - from paper to screen, for turning the production round to make a great episode at a distance - so we may not see a kiss or a fight on TV for a while, but this shows we can do without and do safely. Bravo @ITV."

This comes after it was revealed that filming would restart on EastEnders Top Gear next month.

According to BBC's director of content Charlotte Moore, plans are underway to restart shooting at the end of June, with social distancing guidance followed at all times.
