Carole Baskin has explained what she believes actually happened to her husband Don Lewis all of those years ago.

Lewis has been missing since August 18 1997, when he left his home in Florida.

Since then, he's never been seen again, and the search has ranged from nearby to his Tampa home to land he owned on Costa Rica.

What we do know, however, is that he owned the Wildlife on Easy Street animal sanctuary with his wife - who shot to fame last year through Netflix documentary Tiger King - and he had an abiding love of flying planes.

He was legally declared dead in 2002, and - whilst no evidence of any foul-play has ever been found - authorities have said in the past that they don't believe he simply went missing on his own.

And now, Carole Baskin has revealed what she reckons happened on that fateful day and she believes that he was involved in an aircraft accident.

Speaking on a Reddit 'Ask Me Anything' ahead of the release of Tiger King 2 and her new show Carole Baskin's Cage Fight, she said: "Don loved to fly and was looking to buy ultralights and experimental planes.

Baskin did a Reddit AMA yesterday.

"I believe Don crashed a small experimental plane or ultralight into the Gulf for a number of reasons.

"He wasn't licensed to fly, yet did all the time. He couldn't file a flight plan and had to take off from closed airports to evade detection.

"He had to fly under 200 feet to stay off the radar which means he would typically fly out over the Gulf because the air is smoother there, whereas over land there are up and down drafts that will crash you at the height.

"Since phone records indicated he was planning to go to Texas, and his van was found at a small private airstrip and we have never found Don or wreckage, I think this was the most likely scenario."

Joe Exotic expressed his thoughts on the matter in Tiger King.

The first series of Tiger King saw main protagonist Joe Exotic make claims against Baskin stating that he believed - with no evidence - that she was somehow involved in her husband's disappearance.

Lewis' children have also claimed that Baskin had something to do with the disappearance in the past.

However, she denies these claims and no evidence has ever been discovered.

Now, Tiger King 2 is set to explore the story further, despite legal challenges from Baskin herself.

We'll find out what they have to say on November 17.
