Twitter has revealed that the final post from Chadwick Boseman's account was the most liked tweet ever.

The actor tragically passed away after a four-year battle with cancer, his family announced yesterday (29 August).

However, the shocking news caused such an incredible response from fans and followers around the world that it received more likes than any other tweet.

Twitter confirmed the news last night.

Sharing the tweet, the site wrote: "Most liked Tweet ever. A tribute fit for a King," the official Twitter account said, retweeting Boseman's post. "#WakandaForever."

It comes after a spokesperson for the actor's family announced the devastating news that he had died at the age of 43.

In a statement posted to his Twitter, they revealed the actor had been diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016. He'd been battling with the illness for the last four years as it progressed to stage IV.

The message read: "It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.

"Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last four years as it progressed to stage IV.

"A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and several more - all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.

"It was the honour of his career to bring King TChalla to life in Black Panther."

The actor never spoke publicly about his diagnosis. He is survived by his wife Taylor.

Since news of his death was announced, friends and former colleagues have taken to social media to share their condolences with his family.

In a video posted to his Instagram account, a tearful Josh Gad, with whom Boseman starred in the film Marshall, said the actor was "beyond talented".

"There aren't words to express what an amazing human being Chadwick Boseman was," Gad started, finding it difficult to speak.

"You come upon people in your life who are next-level good. This was a man who was beyond talented and was so unbelievably giving not only as a performer but as a human being.

"Beyond just being Black Panther, Chadwick was T'Challah in real life, he was somebody who just gave and gave and gave and never stopped giving.

"2020 has been so devastating for so many reasons - this one hurts because it's taking away somebody who was honestly one of the greats. I don't know how to process this, but I want to send my love to his entire family and to all the fans out there, he's gonna be missed."

Concluding the emotionally charged video, Gad said: "Love you guys, stay safe. Chadwick, rest in peace my friend, love you."
