Coca-Cola has released its Christmas advert - and it's an emotional one.

Directed by Taika Waititi, this year's commercial follows the long and arduous journey of a dad trying to deliver his daughter's letter to Santa Claus.

Before heading off to work, his little girl hands him her note addressed to Father Christmas, and asks him to deliver it for her.

While working on a rig in the middle of the sea, he spots a postal boat, but as he jumps in a little speedboat and tries to catch up with it, the motor runs out and he becomes stranded on the shore.

But he doesn't give up. The doting dad ventures out into the cold, determined to get his kid's message to the North Pole.

And, eventually, he arrives at Santa's front door, only to find that it's 'closed for Christmas'.

Forlorn, the dad then spots the iconic Coca-Cola truck driving past and hops in for a ride.

When he returns home, the driver passes him back his daughter's letter, but when he opens it, it reads: "Dear Santa, Please bring daddy home for Christmas."

The ad then ends with the tag line: "This Christmas, give something only you can give."

This year's Coca-Cola advert will have you reaching for the tissues.

And since it was released, it has had plenty of viewers in floods of tears.

Sharing the ad on Twitter, one user said: "The Taika Waititi directed this year's Coca-Cola Christmas ad. It will make you cry hard, this is your first and only warning."

Another wrote: "The UK Coca-Cola Christmas ad (mini-movie, really) is out and...yes, I cried."

"Dramatic, sentimental, and likely to reduce you to tears: Christmas advert season is here," said a third.

While another added: "Watched this year's Coca-Cola Christmas commercial... I'm not crying, I'm not crying, I'm not crying."

But this isn't the only festive ad that has had people reaching for the tissues this year.

Sam Clegg recently created his own homemade commercial, and it's not for the faint-hearted.

The five-minute long video shows a loving relationship between a man and his dog. Sold already?

The pair are getting ready to celebrate the festive season: opening their advent calendars and presents from under the tree.

The clip goes on to show the man taking the dog, called Bruno, for a snowy walk but disaster strikes when he lets the pooch off its lead and it goes missing.

We then watch on in misery as the man is home alone and devastated by the loss of his doggo. He then goes on a walk to find his best pal and things go from bad to worse - we'll put it that way.
