A new documentary series aims to investigate whether the mysterious German 'Christian B' really did abduct Madeleine McCann from her holiday home in Portugal in 2007.

Prime Suspect: The Madeleine McCann Case is a three part series created for discovery+ that shines a light on a criminal case that has shocked and fascinated the world for nearly 15 years.

The show aims to drill down into the identity of the man suspected of the kidnapping, a German national known only as Christian B.

They'll be looking into the 43-year-old man's shady criminal past, as well as asking the question as to whether he is guilty of McCann's abduction.

A synopsis reads: "13 years after Madeleine McCann's disappearance in Portugal, a new prime suspect has emerged.

Christian B.

"Even though the authorities apparently have not found any trace of Madeleine McCann, German federal police are convinced that Madeleine's abductor is sitting in a German jail cell, where he is currently serving a prison sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz - the same civil parish in the Algarve region of Portugal where Madeleine was abducted.

"Told in three parts, Prime Suspect: The Madeleine McCann Case examines who Christian B is and how he can be linked to one of the world's most well-known, unsolved cases.

"Friends of the suspect, an ex-girlfriend and key figures in the case, such as the suspect's defence counsel, the German prosecutor and the former lead investigator on the case, exclusively share their thoughts in this eerie, fascinating documentary."

It continues: "Christian B was declared prime suspect in the case in June 2020 but has not yet been charged for the crime.

"Critics say the police lack evidence, but what led the German police to a breakthrough in the case that shocked the entire world?

"How and why is the 43-year-old German man suspected of Madeleine McCann's disappearance?

"Have witnesses placed him near the crime scene, or do police have other evidence that could place him in the McCann family's bedroom on that fateful night 13 years ago?"

The German suspect is currently in prison for a separate crime.
