Next year looks to be a huge one for movie sequels, with some huge franchises coming back for more.

This includes Sherlock Holmes 3 (24 December), Spider-Man 3 (5 November), and Jurassic World 3 (21 June).

Some of this backlog is due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the likes of Venom 2 (25 June), Ghostbusters: Afterlife (5 March), and F9 (2 April) all originally set for 2020 release dates.

One of the most eagerly anticipated films is Jackass 4, which is due to land in cinemas on 2 July next year.

This latest Jackass flick was announced in December and will be the first since 2010's Jackass 3D, as well as the first time the gang have filmed together since the tragic death of their friend and fellow cast member Ryan Dunn.

So far, Paramount has yet to confirmed which of the original gang will be returning to take part in the next instalment. So far only Johnny Knoxville, the face of the franchise, has confirmed he will return.

Filming is also well underway for the hotly-anticipated Matrix 4.

It's been almost 20 years since we last saw Keanu Reeves play the leather-clad hero Neo, and the creators want to make sure the fourth instalment does justice to the hugely popular trilogy.

Chad Stahelski, who was Keanu's stunt double in the first two films, is involved in the fourth film of the sci-fi series in a more creative capacity, explaining that his role is to make a sequence in The Matrix 4 'absolutely crazy'.

The film is set to hit cinemas on 21 May, but with filming disrupted due to the pandemic, there could be further delay.

And if you're desperate for a bit of sporting nostalgia, look no further. Space Jam: A New Legacy will see basketball colossus LeBron James try and live up to Michael Jordan's performance in original 1996 release.

Filming began last year and 'The King' won't be the only LA Lakers' star in the film as he's set to be joined by Anthony Davis whilst fellow basketball players Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul and Diana Taurasi will also star.

Commenting on an Instagram post by James, in which he teased the logo for the new movie, one fan wrote: "We just have to get through this year and 2021 will be great."

Space Jam 2 is penciled in for a 16 July release.

Oh, and if that wasn't enough, there's more!

Despite a series of Covid-related delays, director James Cameron is still hopeful that Avatar 2 will be ready for a 2021 release.

Speaking to Empire, he said: "It's putting a major crimp in our stride here. I want to get back to work on Avatar, which right now we're not allowed to do under state emergency laws or rules. So it's all on hold right now.

"We were about to shoot down in New Zealand, so that got pushed. We're trying to get back to it as quick as we can.

"On the bright side, New Zealand seems to have been very effective in controlling the virus and their goal is not mitigation, but eradication, which they believe that they can do with aggressive contact tracing and testing.

"So there's a very good chance that our shoot might be delayed a couple of months, but we can still do it. So that's good news."

At the moment, Avatar 2 is due to be released on 17 December.
