Jeremy Clarkson has said that Greta Thunberg has 'killed the car show', saying that it's her fault that young people 'hate cars'.

The 59-year-old former Top Gear presenter said that the activist's war on climate change has meant that young people are now not keen on cars that use lots of fossil fuels.

He called the 16-year-old girl an 'idiot' for 'saying we're all going to die', adding that making such claims wouldn't help her cause.

The traditional car show usually sees people gather to display their expensive 'classic' cars so others can look at them. Yeah, thrilling stuff.

Of course, 'classic' usually = 'old', and of course older cars aren't exactly known for being eco-friendly. Same goes for the huge 4x4 cars and SUVs which can also be found at car shows, as they absolutely smash fossil fuels.

Still, while Clarkson has taken it out on Greta, all major car companies have been developing more eco-friendly versions, including Jaguar and Porsche - suggesting a conscious shift among manufacturers towards protecting the environment.

Jeremy is insistent, however, that younger people's apparent lack of interest in motor vehicles and car shows is all Greta's fault.

Greta has been outspoken about the effect that climate change will have on her generation.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: "Everyone I know under 25 isn't the slightest bit interested in cars - Greta Thunberg has killed the car show.

"They're taught at school, before they say 'Mummy and Daddy', that cars are evil, and it's in their heads."

However, although he's been a big critic of climate change activism, he has said that he now accepts global warming and climate change are 'definitely a thing'.

He's even taken it on board for his next TV show, which will look at the issue.

Next month's episode, The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen, will see Mr Clarkson make a 500-mile trip from Cambodia to Vietnam, with sidekicks Richard Hammond and James May.

Although the three have worked together for at least 20 years, the next episode will be the first time they've filmed and taken climate change seriously instead of mocking it.

Clarkson wrote in The Sunday Times: "It's the first time that we've ever admitted to there being global warming."

This isn't the first time he's had it in for Greta - back in September he branded her a 'spoilt brat', writing in The Sun: "How dare you sail to America on a carbon fibre yacht that you didn't build which cost £15 million, that you didn't earn, and which has a back-up diesel engine that you didn't mention.

"We gave you mobile phones and laptops and the internet. We created the social media you use every day and we run the banks that pay for it all. So how dare you stand there and lecture us, you spoilt brat."
