Locke and Key has been renewed by Netflix for a second series, it has been confirmed.

Speaking to Deadline about the news, executive producers and co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill, said: "We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke and Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators.

"We are grateful to Netflix for all their support, especially at this difficult time, and look forward to bringing you the exciting next chapter of our story."

The site also stated that Brian Wright, Vice President, Original Series at Netflix, was over the moon to have signed the show up for another season.

He reportedly added: "Based on the incredible graphic novel from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke and Key captivated audiences around the world at every twist and turn.

"We are so proud to have been part of this show and can't wait to see all that Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and the entire creative team have in store for season two."

If you're one of the very few who hasn't heard of the show, you could do worse things with your current bout of isolation than diving into the first series.

It's based on a comic series from Joe Hill - who happens to be Stephen King's son - and Gabriel Rodriguez and soon enough, we'll get to find out all about it.

It follows a family in the wake of their father's mysterious death, and stars Darby Stanchfield (Scandal) as Nina Locke, Jackson Robert Scott (IT and IT 2) as Bode Locke, Connor Jessup (American Crime) as Tyler Locke, Emilia Jones (Horrible Histories) as Kinsey Locke and Bill Heck (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) as Rendell Locke.

The show's synopsis reads: "After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father's death.

It comes after weeks of fans calling for another series.

"As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens - and will stop at nothing to steal them.

"From Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House), the series is a coming-of-age mystery about love, loss, and the unshakeable bonds that define family."

And today's announcement follows weeks of fans calling out for a second outing.

One person tweeted: "It's 5.30am and I've spent the whole night binge watching Locke and Key on Netflix. I cannot believe the ending I'm literally shook to my core rn I NEED SEASON 2 ASAP PLZ."
