Michael Jordan will appear in Space Jam 2, according to Don Cheadle.

The basketball legend starred in the 1996 movie, where he teamed up with the Loony Tunes to defeat a group of crazed outer space aliens.

But with LeBron James taking up the lead role for A New Legacy, it seemed unlikely that there would be room for the Chicago Bulls hero.

However, one of its other stars, Don Cheadle, has now revealed that there certainly is.

Not giving much away, he told Access Hollywood: "Michael Jordan is in the movie. But not in the way you'd expect it."

Space Jam: A New Legacy director Malcolm D. Lee had previously said that he thinks the sequel is 'a better movie' than the original - a big claim indeed.

"Who is going to be the first to get an Oscar? Let's have that debate," Lee told Entertainment Weekly of Michael Jordan and new star LeBron James.

"Space Jam: A New Legacy is a better movie than Space Jam. If you say theatrical movie, Space Jam is it. LeBron's got that going for him."

However, Lee admitted that Jordan's impact on basketball and beyond was incredible.

He said: "Michael Jordan transcended sports. LeBron is arguably in that category. Now, there's probably no LeBron without Jordan, and I'm sure he would admit that. But he's a once-in-a-generation player.

"I love who LeBron is as a man, as an athlete, as an activist.

James, however, had previously said that he hadn't discussed the movie with Jordan, although this may have changed since.

The LA Lakers player said he just hoped Jordan approves of it.

"It's something Mike created and is his," James told EW. "I held that with a lot of responsibility.

"In my younger days, part of my thinking was, 'Space Jam was so good, how can I top this?'"

James added that while he's aware that comparisons between him and Jordan are inevitable, it's not something he was concerned with.

"There's always going to be conversations about LeBron trying to do everything Michael [did]. But I've gotten older, and you know who you are. You know what you stand for."

Speaking of joining forces with the Looney Tunes team, the LA Lakers star said: "It's one of the biggest games, if not the biggest game, I've ever played in.

"The Goon Squad is probably the best team ever assembled in basketball history."
