Over the coming weeks and months Netflix looks set to get a hammering in the UK, as we attempt to keep ourselves entertained through another lockdown.

You will notice that you're being charged more for the pleasure though, with subscription fees set to increase this week.

I say you'll notice, but if you're still blagging access through your mum's account, then you won't - she will.

Netflix will now cost you more each month.

The standard package will increase from £8.99 per month to £9.99, while the premium package will increase from £11.99 per month to £13.99 per month.

The basic subscription package will remain at £5.99 per month.

Members will be notified via email and the timing will depend on the specific member's billing cycle.

The price for new customers was increased from 10 December, with existing customers now subject to the increase, which was first announced in October.

A Netflix spokesperson told LADbible the increase reflects the 'significant investments' the streaming service had made in original content.

They said: "This year we're spending over $1bn (£730 million) in the UK on new, locally-made films, series and documentaries, helping to create thousands of jobs and showcasing British storytelling at its best - with everything from The Crown, to Sex Education and Top Boy, plus many, many more.

"Our price change reflects the significant investments we've made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product. Our basic membership will remain at the same price, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content."

There's plenty of new content coming to the platform this month - as you'd bloody well hope for all those extra quids.

You could also watch The Midnight Sky, if you haven't already. The George Clooney film dropped towards the end of last month and is already on track to become one of Netflix's most-streamed movies.

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, the synopsis reads: "
This post-apocalyptic tale follows Augustine (George Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully (Felicity Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe."

As well as Clooney and Jones, the movie also stars David Oyelowo, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir and Tiffany Boone.
