Meghan Markle has reportedly filed a formal complaint with ITV following Piers Morgan's controversial comments about her mental health.

Piers left Good Morning Britain after five years he questioned whether Meghan Markle felt suicidal and stormed off set during an intense argument with Alex Beresford.

According to the Guardian and The Telegraph, his departure came after 'a formal complaint was lodged with ITV on behalf of the duchess after the broadcast'.

An ITV spokesperson told Tyla that the channel will not make any further comments. The Telegraph said a spokesperson for ITV 'refused to deny' the reports.

Tyla has contacted Meghan Markle's representatives for further comment.

The news comes after Ofcom logged 41,000 complaints due to Piers' comments.

Before leaving Good Morning Britain, Piers had stormed off the set following a heated discussion with his colleague, Alex Beresford, about the Meghan.

"They have had an overwhelming amount of negative press," said Alex.

"I watched it again yesterday and yes they had some great press around the wedding, but everything that has followed since has been damaging to Meghan's mental health.

"... I understand that you don't like Meghan Markle, you've made it so clear a number of times on this programme, and I understand you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off if she wants to.

"Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has but yet you continue to trash her."

"OK, I'm done with this," says Piers, before getting up out of his seat and disappearing off set.

"This is absolutely diabolical behaviour," says Alex. "Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit there and listen."

Following Monday's episode of Good Morning Britain, mental health charity Mind issued a statement explaining they were "concerned" over what Piers had said about Meghan.

"We were disappointed and concerned to see Piers Morgan's comments on not believing Meghan's experiences about suicidal thoughts today," the statement read.

"It's vital that when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health that they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy. We are in conversations with ITV about this at the moment."

Meghan spoke candidly about her mental health with TV host Oprah Winfrey.

"Look, I was really ashamed to have to say [I was suicidal] at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, but I knew that if I didn't say that I would do it," she said.

"I just didn't want to be alive anymore."

"It takes so much courage to admit you need help," she added, "to admit how dark of a place you're in."

When asked by Oprah just how close she got to taking her life, Meghan responded that her suicidal thoughts were "real and frightening", adding that at points she couldn't be left alone.
