Piers Morgan will stay at ITV despite leaving Good Morning Britain after storming off set this week, sources have said.

According to i News, the controversial presenter, 55, will carry on making programmes for the channel, which will include his celebrity interview show Life Stories.

Morgan left GMB abruptly following a series of on-air bust ups and a long-running commentary on Meghan Markle, which colleague Alex Beresford challenged him on.

Piers had been presenting the show with Susanna Reid for five years, but this week he questioned whether Meghan Markle felt suicidal and stormed off set during an intense argument with Alex Beresford.

According to the Guardian and The Telegraph, his departure came after 'a formal complaint was lodged with ITV on behalf of the duchess after the broadcast'.

An ITV spokesperson told Tyla that the channel will not make any further comments. The Telegraph said a spokesperson for ITV 'refused to deny' the reports.

Before Piers stormed off set, he had a heated discussion with Beresford about the couple's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Alex said: "They have had an overwhelming amount of negative press.

"I watched it again yesterday and yes they had some great press around the wedding, but everything that has followed since has been damaging to Meghan's mental health.

"... I understand that you don't like Meghan Markle, you've made it so clear a number of times on this programme, and I understand you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off if she wants to.

"Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has but yet you continue to trash her."

"OK, I'm done with this," says Piers, before getting up out of his seat and disappearing off set.

"This is absolutely diabolical behaviour," says Alex. "Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit there and listen."

Following Monday's episode of Good Morning Britain, mental health charity Mind issued a statement explaining they were "concerned" over what Piers had said about Meghan.

It has also since emerged that other members of staff from Good Morning Britain reportedly complained about Piers Morgan's comments about Meghan Markle.

However, sources close to the show have now claimed that they were not comfortable with his views.

Speaking to The Guardian, one insider said: "Everyone is used to Piers saying things like this, but Meghan had literally said that the media wasn't treating her fairly because of who she is, and he was just doing it again."
