A Nando's restaurant in Glasgow is planning on opening Christmas Day in a bid to help the city's homeless by feeding them and giving them gifts.

A sign has been put up alongside a bin for customers to fill with things like blankets, gloves and jackets to keep them warm.

The sign reads: "We are planning on opening Christmas Day to feed some of Glasgow's homeless and we'd love your help to provide them with some useful gifts such as blankets, gloves, jackets etc to keep them warm. Please help us fill our bin between now and Christmas Day."

Posting a picture of the sign on Facebook, they added: "We have place a bin Our entrance and would love if you could help us fill it with hats, gloves, blankets, toiletries, etc.

"Anything you can give would help so we can give these people at little bit of cheers on Christmas Day.

"We will be arranging invites with local charities who help the homeless so if anyone can assist us further with this that would be fantastic x".

It seems they had many people offering to work on the day and later posted an update which read: "Thanks so much for all the offers of volunteering. Unfortunately due to the nature of our business it isn't quite as simple as just coming along and we would have to carry out all sorts of risk assessments, paperwork, training beforehand which we simply don't have the time to do.

"The team are overwhelmed by the support shown and we think we have plenty of numbers to help on the day from our own team. We are certainly not ungrateful for the offers but hope you understand we cannot accept x."

When people from other areas asked whether all Nando's were taking part, the restaurant responded: "We know of some restaurants down south are, we are just keen to do something as we see the plight of the homeless on our doorstep every day".
