Police in the West Midlands have announced that they have found a baby that was in the back of a car during a car-jacking earlier today.
The four-week-old baby girl was taken along with a grey Audi A3 S-Line this afternoon from Marie Drive in Acocks Green, near Birmingham.
The discovery of the baby comes after a huge police effort to find both the car that contained the young child. The car, which has the registration number BJ66 YLV was stolen at around 4pm this afternoon and driven in the direction of Solihull. All the while the baby was strapped into a car seat within the vehicle.
At the time, the West Midlands Police Breaking Twitter account posted: "We are urgently looking for a grey Audi A3 S line with the reg no. BJ66 YLV in connection with the car-jacking from Marie Drive in Acocks Green just after 4pm."
The concern at the time was that the car-jackers would realise that there was a child in the back seat and abandon her by the side of the road, enabling them to make their escape.
Mercifully, they have now found the baby, who was left at a health centre by the criminals. The police announced this on Twitter at just after 5pm today.
They said: "GREAT NEWS! Baby found safe and well! The 4-week-old was left at a health centre and will shortly be re-united with her mother who has been taken to hospital after sustaining leg injuries in the car-jacking."
The car is still missing.
The police are appealing for anyone with information to call 101, as well as urging members of the public to keep looking for the car.
