BBC Presenter Calls Jeremy Hunt 'C***' During Trump Visit Coverage

BBC Presenter Calls Jeremy Hunt 'C***' During Trump Visit Coverage

The presenter is by no means the first to make this mistake

When broadcasting live on air, not saying 'c***' is pretty much rule number one. Yet, when the subject of conversation is foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt, the C-bomb seems to be dropped incredibly frequently.

The latest presenter to make the gaffe is Nicky Campbell, who made the crucial mispronunciation on BBC 5 Live Breakfast this morning during coverage of Donald Trump's UK state visit.

WARNING - SWEARS AHEAD.

Campbell made the slip-up while explaining who the US President would be meeting after disembarking the Air Force One aircraft at Stansted Airport.

He said: "He's going to be meeting Mr Ben-Julian Harrington, chief constable of Essex Police, who is standing right behind Jeremy C***...Jeremy Hunt."

Rather than linger on the error, or even apologise for it, Campbell instead ploughed on with the coverage, probably in the hope it would be swept under the rug and forgotten - no chance of that Nicky.

He later added that he would 'proceed with caution' for the rest of the morning before simply tweeting 'no comment'.

Judging from the responses to his tweet, it seems more people were amused than offended by the blunder.

One person commented: "Nearly crashed the car laughing Nicky. Proceed with caution indeed. Your colleagues and you should be congratulated for almost completely staying composed and covering for you whilst you composed yourself. Even then though you twice said Trumped instead of Tweeted."

Another added: "I heard it and had a good giggle. I noticed you disappeared off air for a bit - probably laughing away in the background!"

A third said: "After a bad start to the morning, you really cheered me up. Well done both for holding it together and carrying on."

If Campbell is feeling remorseful for his error - which he doesn't seem to be - then he can console himself with the knowledge that countless broadcasters have mispronounced the Conservative politician's surname down the years. Weirder still, they always seem to mispronounce the name the same way - exchanging the 'H' for a 'C'.

In January, a BBC newsreader made the same error on live TV. Like Campbell, she just breezed past it like nothing happened.

She said: "The British government has repeatedly called for her (Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe) release, the foreign secretary, Jeremy C*** summoned the Iranian ambassador to discuss the issue."

Honestly, this has happened so many times now - it's almost like these broadcasters know what they're doing.
