Bradley Lowery's parents have welcomed a baby girl and say their son will be the 'best guardian angel'.

Brave Bradley touched hearts across the globe before his tragic death in 2017.

He was diagnosed with neuroblastoma - a rare form of cancer most common in children and babies - when he was just 18 months old.

Gemma and Carl Lowery, from Blackhall Colliery in County Durham, announced the news they were expecting back in May, telling their followers 'Bradley is going to be the best guardian angel to his little brother or sister'.

The couple have now revealed that Gemma gave birth to a little girl named Gracie-Mae over the weekend.

Posting on The Bradley Lowery Foundation Facebook page, the couple said: "Hi everyone just an update to welcome our beautiful little princess to the world.

"Gracie-Mae was born 12:19am on 6th November weighing 8lb.

"I didn't have the best of labour but I'll not bore you all with the details. I had to have an emergency C section as her heart rate dropped and they needed her out.

"She is now doing amazing and we [are] on our way home."

She went on: "I want to say a huge shout out to all the staff on the maternity unit at Sunderland Royal hospital.

"Every single one of them from start of care when I fell pregnant to leaving tonight have been incredible.

"Myself and Carl are going to now enjoy some family time with our beautiful princess.

"I know everyone will be eager to see her, and I'll be sharing some pictures soon, but we want all the family to meet her first.

"Thank you all for your support."

Alongside the touching post, the couple shared a photo of Carl carrying the newborn out of hospital in a baby carrier.

Football-fanatic Bradley hit headlines around the world, with the youngster receiving thousands of messages of well-wishes and support.

Bradley had been a mascot for Sunderland FC and led England out at Wembley alongside his hero and pal Jermain Defoe.

Following his tragic death in July 2017, his parents set up the Bradley Lowery Foundation, which aids research into the rare disease and other childhood cancers.

The Foundation is also currently developing plans to support a £600,000 holiday home in Scarborough.
