Footage is circulating which shows protesters throwing fireworks towards police horses during Bristol's 'Kill the Bill' demonstration.

The clip shows a firework landing on the ground before firing in two separate directions and then exploding as the horses bolt away from the sparks.

The protests began peacefully last weekend but tensions between police and protestors eventually boiled over, with several vehicles set on fire.

Earlier today (27 March) Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned the group, writing on Twitter: "Last night saw disgraceful attacks against police officers in Bristol.

"Our officers should not have to face having bricks, bottles and fireworks being thrown at them by a mob intent on violence and causing damage to property. The police and the city have my full support."

Johnson's message was backed up by Home Secretary Priti Patel who added: "I am disgusted by the disorder in Bristol and the violence being directed towards the police. I'm in no doubt the silent, law-abiding majority will be appalled by the actions of this criminal minority.

"Despite repeated warnings to disperse, it's clear these thugs were only intent on causing trouble. I am receiving regular updates and the police have my full support."

People are gathering to protest against the Government's proposed Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which would grant the police the powers to impose a start and finishing time and set noise limits on protests consisting of one person or more.

In response to Priti Patel's tweet, one person wrote: "You do get people are protesting against the laws you're attempting to pass restricting our democracy.

"There's an easy way to stop it, and that's to LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO LEND YOU THEIR POWER. Either that or quit and let someone who does represent the public take over."

Another added: "I think the law-abiding majority are appalled by your bill silencing their right to protest."
