Britain's Clumsiest Husband Costs Wife £5,000 In Disasters

He has had a number of shockers

A woman has had to fork out more than £5,000 ($6,450) after her accident-prone husband had a series of disastrous mishaps, including blowing up her car and slicing their new couch in half.

Debbie Stephens, 56, from Edinburgh, says that although her husband of 25 years Craig, 51, has 'the best intentions', his dopey nature has tested her patience at times.

Some of his other accidents include him crashing her car into a McDonald's while trying to change the radio station, blowing all the lights in their home during DIY and writing off her car by putting oil in the wrong tank.

He even booked return tickets for the first day of their holiday by accident - that would be the final straw for me.

But patient Debbie said that despite his clumsiness, Craig is her soulmate and she wouldn't change a thing.

Speaking on new podcast Real Fix, the mum-of-two and business owner from Edinburgh, Scotland, said: "I think he's the clumsiest man in the UK - he's like Frank Spencer and I'm his Betty!

"He is literally the clumsiest person I've ever met. His dopey ways have certainly tested our marriage - but I love him, flaws and all.

"I try to restrict the carnage he causes by avoiding asking him to do any DIY tasks, but no matter what he still manages to leave the house like a building site."

Craig added: "I don't know what it is, but I do tend to get very confused with simple tasks."

The pair met in 1994 in a karaoke bar and have two children together, now aged 23 and 25.

The first time Debbie had an idea what she was getting herself into was when they first moved in with each other. Craig used the iron and instead of using an ironing board, he used the carpet, burning it.

Soon after he flooded the bathroom by leaning on the sink and breaking it off the wall, before going on to try to 'fix' the washing machine, instead breaking a valve and flooding the house again.

Speaking on the podcast, Craig said: "It was like an Egyptian snake dancing about."

Craig tried to fix their oven by re-wiring it, not realising he was colour blind.

Debbie told the podcast host: "But after the oven blew up for the tenth time, we resorted to calling out an engineer - who was extremely confused."

He cut open the packaging of their brand new couch with a knife, slitting every cushion open.

And he ruined their fridge by defrosting it with a two bar electric fire.

Debbie said: "Craig is really one of a kind. Although I love my soul mate to death, he is literally leaving everything we have in pieces and I don't know how much more I can take of his antics, especially since it has cost us over £5,000 to fix everything so far."

Craig said: "Debbie has the patience of a saint. I always mean well, but I do have a bit of a habit of making a pigs ear of things."
