Brits Had A Bit Too Much Fun As They Celebrated New Year's Eve

Thousands of revellers were out on the town last night as they rang in the New Year.

Another New Year and another hangover from hell.

Every year leads up to this one night where inhibitions are thrown out the window as people look to end the year on a high - whether that means paying whatever it takes to get into a crowded club or sitting at home with the Hootenanny.

But Jools isn't quite enough excitement for everyone, so last night thousands descended on the country's cities in search of a memorable New Year's, donning their best gladrags as they set off on a night of drinking and dancing their way into 2019.

However, as they say, all good things must come to an end - and for some they ended in tears and a pair of handcuffs, as things got a bit out of hand for some.

But if that wasn't bad enough, photographers took to the streets and snapped the revellers as they spilled out of pubs and clubs in some of the city's major cities.

And though most managed to keep a level head as they made their way home, others overindulged slightly and no doubt woke up this morning soaked in the stench of regret.

One city that's well-versed in the art if clubbing is Manchester, and pictures taken from last night showed that in their quest of the the mother of all BNOs, some of the city's residents pushed things to the limit and kept its emergency services extremely busy.

Punters were snapped falling over in the streets, fighting, passed out in the middle of the pavement, and some even being led away by police.

Just your typical night then.

One pic even caught an altercation between two men outside a taxi, with the pair seeming to be grappling and throwing punches at each other.

In a tweet from Greater Manchester Police, they said that the city's annual fireworks display had actually gone fairly smoothly, except for one person who just couldn't quite contain his excitement.

Inspector Middleton wrote: "The Albert Square fireworks was very popular only 1 person there didn't behave (arrested after exposing his penis)."

Who says Brits don't know how to party, eh?

One person joked: "Not a good idea to do that when fireworks are about especially sparklers."

But it wasn't just Mancunians who were out in force last night, clubbers in Bristol and Birmingham were just as keen to get on it.

A plethora of drunken souls were spotted slumped over their chips, falling asleep in the street and being consoled by their pals after an emotional start to 2019.

Some partygoers will have woken up with sore heads this morning.

West Midlands Police said on their social media sites that it was one of the busiest nights of the year with more than 1,000 calls in just a few hours.

They tweeted: "@WMPContact have dealt with 1,376 emergency calls between midnight and 5.30am. As a comparison the day before we dealt with 1870 calls for an entire 24hr period. Busy night for all concerned who've done a sterling job."

Thankfully the country's emergency services were on hand to make sure people got home safely.
