We didn't really think it could get worse than sticking horrible notes on ambulances... well, not until one got vandalised. But now, things have hit a new low as life-saving equipment has been stolen from a fire engine.

Police are currently hunting for a pair of thieves who stole the gear earlier this week, and have also released pictures in a bid to find the culprits. Yup, they're not messing around.

The shameless crooks struck on Tuesday when they targeted a fire engine which had been parked up at All Saints Church of England Community Primary School in Leek Wootton, Warwickshire, between 2pm and 2.45pm.

PC Ross Kirby, from the Warwick Rural West Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "This was a disgraceful theft of equipment that may be required to save lives.

"We believe these two men may have information about the incident and we're appealing for anyone who recognises them to get in touch."

The statement continued: "We would also like to ask any residents in the area with active dash cams to check the time period between 2.00pm and 2.45pm and let us know if they've captured anything that could be connected to this incident."

Anyone with information that could help with the enquiries is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident 277 of 2 October 2018.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

And, as expected, people aren't best pleased about the entire thing.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: "I could not believe this when I heard about it the next day. Things like this infuriate me - so selfish and shocking!"

Another added: "It's such a sad world we live in now when the fire service has to lock their appliances in case some lowlife steals something from it, let's hope one day that lowlife needs the emergency service and they can't go because someone has stolen some parts needed."

A third commented: "Disgraceful, I cannot believe that people could be so uncaring. Let's hope if they suffer a fire they will realise what they have done."

But someone else gave us a quick reminder: "Seriously, these things happen. We can all hope they catch the culprits. And for every lowlife, you have to remember that there are millions of people who respect our emergency services."
