Bosses at a chippy in Scotland have blasted a customer who tried to use the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme to get eight cut-price meals for himself.

Staff at Eglinton Diner and Fish Fry in Ayrshire were stunned when the customer asked for one dish to eat in and another seven to take away with them.

And after refusing to serve the diner, bosses were shocked further when the disgruntled gentleman left a review, slamming the restaurant and saying he decided to go to KFC instead.

The unnamed man wrote: "Attitude totally pants and insulting, lost out on eight different meals, KFC loved your money, long time customer never be back."

Under the rules of the scheme, the 50 percent reduction - up to the value of £10 - is only available on items you plan on consuming on the premises. It is not for takeaway meals.

So, in a bid to put the record straight, an employee from the chippy hit back, criticising the man for being 'greedy'.

The customer left a salty review after he was refused eight meals at the diner.

Commenting on the review, they said: "I can only assume you were the person in the diner yesterday who was dining alone but asked to order eight suppers.

"One to eat and the other seven to take away to keep you going for the next few days.

"Please read the rules on the Eat Out to Help Out scheme as this is certainly not the way it is intended to work.

"It is people with your greed that put schemes like this in jeopardy and we value our business too much to be bending rules for greedy customers.

"I hope you enjoyed your meal."

And they weren't done there. The diner then posted the review on its social media page, stating in the caption that staff were gobsmacked by the man's brazen attempt to get more than he needed.

Bosses at the diner hit out at the customer for trying to pull a fast one.

It read: "I think the attitude of the staff was utter disbelief. Trying to order eight meals for one person so he can get them half price. Unbelievable!"

Since the post went up, staff have been praised for sticking by their principles and standing their ground.

Commenting on the post, one person said: "Well done Eglinton diner. This person needs to look at his conscience. If he has to warm them up he may get food poisoning with a bit of luck."

A second put: "People just don't get it do they! Yous guys are doing amazing and your food is amazing. F*** the haters."

While another added: "One of my favourite chippies staff always friendly and the service is always excellent."

Though not everyone was on their side.

One user said they couldn't understand the problem, writing: "Can't see what your problem was, you claim it back anyway."
