A brother and sister have honoured their dad's dying wish of pouring his ashes down the drain of his favourite pub.

Kevin McGlinchey's family, from Coventry, filmed the moment his remains were spooned into a pint of larger and poured down the drains outside his local inn, the Hollybush.

Mr McGlinchey made the 'mad' request shortly before he passed away at the age of 66.

And his children, Owen and Cassidy, promised to fulfill his wish, doing so on what would have been his birthday.

In the video, Owen can be seen holding the urn containing his father's ashes before taking a spoonful and putting it into a pint of beer.

After mixing the glass, with other family members joking that he should 'down it'.

Holding the glass, Owen then says a short speech, saying: "As mad as it sounds, this is the last wish he ever wanted, to go down this drain and be here forever."

He then takes the glass and pours it down the drain, with those gathered cheering as he does.

The video was captured back in 2018.

Cassidy said her father had wanted to be able to 'travel to all his locals through the drains underground' after he had gone.

"My dad was 66 when he passed away and it was a very emotional time for us all and very hard to get our heads around," she said.

"Our dad had told us for years and years his wishes would be to go down a pub drain, he used to drop things down there, weird things like his hair.

"He loved the Hollybush and would take a walk up there everyday and he said when I die if you put me down the drain I will be able to travel to all my locals through the drains underground.

"Every time you walk over a drain you will think of me and there are plenty around so no matter where you are in the world you will still think it."

Cassidy said she was happy with the send off her dad received.

She said: "It was an amazing feeling giving my dad exactly what he had wished for when he died, and I would do it all over again.

"We have been through so much as a family over the years and suffered so much heartache, it's nice to have a smile knowing my dad is still causing a stir even from his drain."
