Debenhams is set to close, putting 12,000 jobs at risk, the BBC reports.

The department store chain fell into administration for the second time in April, but had hoped to secure a rescue bid from JD Sports.

However, that lifeline was scuppered yesterday (Monday) when Arcadia - the biggest concession operator in Debenhams - went into administration.

All 124 Debenhams are expected to close, meaning all 12,000 employees are likely to lose their jobs.

The 242-year-old retailer had cut 6,500 jobs since May as it struggled to stay afloat.
