Dash cam footage has been released of a dangerous driver who sped the wrong way around a roundabout and drove at 80 miles per hour in a 30mph zone.

Provisional licence holder Jake Bainbridge, 25, refused to stop during the police chase and continued to race through Stockton, County Durham.

According to the MailOnline, Bainbridge, who had a female passenger in tow, ran a red light and narrowly avoided hitting another vehicle in the Ford Fiesta.

Less than a minute into the chase, Bainbridge hit speeds in excess of 80mph. At one point it looked as though he had pulled over into a parking space, waiting for the police car to stop before suddenly cutting ahead and racing away.

Bainbridge was sentenced to 14 months behind bars.

He went on to turn off his lights and drive on the wrong side of the road, even driving around a roundabout the wrong way.

It was explained at Teesside Crown Court that the chase came to a sudden end when Bainbridge crashed through a hedge and fence before stopping in a field.

Prosecuting, Emma Atkinson explained that he had 'no regard for the speed limit' and even ignored the police officer who threatened him with a taser as a way of detaining him when he ran away from the car.

Bainbridge, from Newham Grange, Stockton, admitted dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen, driving without a licence or insurance, and possession of cannabis - which was found in the car.

Judge Sean Morris jailed him for 14 months and banned him from driving for two years.

The chase came to a close when Bainbridge drove through a fence and into a field.

Back in November an 18-year-old joyrider with almost 50 previous convictions was captured crashing into a police officer in a stolen car.

Teenager Kash Parkinson received a four-year jail sentence for running over PC Christopher Haxby, leaving the officer with whiplash and shoulder injuries, and causing £14,000 worth of damage.

The footage shows the horrifying moment PC Haxby went flying over the bonnet of his own police car after he was hit by the offender.

The incident occurred when PC Haxby attempted to arrest Parkinson for breaking bail - for another stolen car chase offence - when he was slammed into by the 18-year-old.

During the teen's sentencing, Judge Martin Savill said PC Haxby 'could've been killed'.

He said: "That to me sums up this young man's approach to life. He couldn't care less. There comes a time when the public has to be protected.

"I can only hope this will offer you some cause to consider where your life is going."
