If you're reading this then, thankfully, you survived the earthquake that rocked the UK earlier today. Yup, that's right, the terror is over and we're all safe.

According to the British Geological Survey (BGS) the wonderful town of Grimsby was hit by a 3.9 magnitude earthquake at 11.14 last night, that was felt in Lincolnshire and Yorrkshire, with some reports coming from around 60 miles (100km) away from the epicentre.

There have been no reported injuries. To give it some context, the BGS said there are around 8,000 quakes annually bigger than the one that occurred in Grimsby last night.

The BGS said it had received a number of reports from local residents who said 'the whole house shook for a couple of seconds' another said their 'radiator jolted' while a third reported a 'rumble with simultaneous trembling'. Terrifying.

On Twitter some people reported feeling a 'mild shake', while a woman from Hull took to social media to say the earthquake 'creaked the house' leaving her 'shaking like a leaf'.

Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph, one resident said the tremors: "Made my budgie fall off his perch." The budgie was not reported to have been injured, but was probably a bit confused.

Not everyone was terrified, though, most just went on Twitter to take the piss:

In February this year a 4.6 magnitude quake hit Cwmllynfell in south Wales - the strongest of the year for the UK.

Despite what you probably think, the BGS says quakes aren't particularly uncommon in the UK, happening every couple of years.
