Four Men 'Dine And Dash' Leaving Bill Of Nearly £100 At Welsh Pub

They couldn't avoid the CCTV cameras, though

A group of four men allegedly dined and dashed from a restaurant in Wales, leaving behind a bill totalling nearly £100.

Now, it's a pretty horrible thing to do at any point in time, but after the year the hospitality industry has had - and is still having - it's even more inexcusable.

Luckily, the CCTV cameras installed at The Goldcroft in Newport managed to capture a good look at the alleged culprits, and hopefully then can be brought to justice and the restaurant will get the money they're owed.

The diners ate and drank to the tune of £93.60 on Tuesday 15 December, but then pulled off a 'carefully planned theft' by leaving before settling up.

The Caerleon pub's manager Rachel Cullinane described the theft as 'all very well co-ordinated'.

She added: "They arrived separately in two cars and ate - three courses, extra sides and everything.

"When they were finished, one of them walked out. Obviously, we were busy and didn't think anything of it.

"He sat in his van and then after a little while another one of them walked out, and as soon as he did that, the first guy reverses and drives off.

"Eventually the two others walk out of the restaurant through the one-way system we have in place, and you hear them saying 'oh we'll pay now, he's just gone to the toilet'.

"And the minute they get out the door, they start running down the road."

Rachel explained how the staff at the pub had been deeply saddened by the men's behaviour, particularly given the current situation surrounding hospitality venues.

She continued: "We just couldn't believe it.

"We've got our hands tied behind our back constantly already, trying to do everything we can every time the rules change.

"We are the safest industry - you look at the likes of Primark on Saturday and you think people could be in here where it's so much easier to social distance, and safer."

The good news is that the men were captured on CCTV, and made a 'schoolboy error' in parking right near to the outdoor cameras, too.

Rachel explained: "We have the information we need, we saw everything."

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "At 4.10pm yesterday we received a call reporting that four men had attended the Goldcroft Inn in Caerleon, eaten a meal and left without paying.

"Officers are making enquiries. Anyone with information relating to this is asked to call 101 quoting 2000453912."
