A former gay porn star from Germany is running for parliament in Scotland.

Philipp Tanzer is the Scottish Family Party's regional list candidate for the Highlands and Islands at the Holyrood elections in May.

But before this, the 43-year-old was a porn star in his native Germany, performing under the name Logan McCree.

He's had an unusual career trajectory.

Now Tanzer - who moved to Scotland eight years ago - is now in a relationship with a woman, and in politics, he wants to highlight the harm caused by pornography.

He told the Daily Mail: "I had a negative view of the pornographic industry even before I joined it, but I needed the money.

"In one year I lost five friends in the industry to suicide and drug overdoses. I have seen the harm porn addiction can do. Not all my experiences with it have been negative though - I met some wonderful people.

"One of the main reasons to run for the Scottish Family Party has been my experience and helping people learn from it."

He continued: "Porn is not a men's problem. Both boys and girls consume pornography and both suffer under its impact.

"When I was younger I was not clear what path I would take. I was pushed into identifying myself as something at the age of 32 that I was not.

"The Scottish Family Party best represent my views on life and society."

He's left porn behind him and is now highlighting the harm it can do.

The fact the party best represents his views on life and society is somewhat surprising, given some of the party's policies.

It wants children to be taught 'about the correlations between homosexual relationships and physical and mental health problems'.

Tanzer insisted the party does 'not hate or disrespect' the LGBT+ community in a livestream in March.

According to Pink News, he said: "I used to be a gay porn actor and I know about the struggles and confusion of growing up, being unsure about my own sexuality and identity."

However, he said he fully supports the party's stance on 'removing gay and trans-affirming indoctrination from school' and claimed the UK's education system is 'forcing LGBT+ lifestyles and pornography on children'.

Tanzer was the subject of a BBC documentary last year in which he revealed why he had become a 'men's rights activist'.

He said: "You are constantly being silenced. Society as a whole has an issue listening to men's issues."
