The family of June, also known as Katie, released the following statement moments after he was sentenced. The statement said: "Today, justice has been done for our beloved Katie.

"Finally, Michael Foran faced up to the gravity of the overwhelming evidence against him, forcing him to plead guilty to Katie's murder.

"We as a family know that the guilty plea will never bring Katie back to us or justify the long term suffering he inflicted upon her and subsequently us. We will always miss Katie and will know she will be forever in our hearts.

"We now as a family hope to move on now justice has been done and Katie can finally rest in peace."

Foran grinned and laughed as he fled the flat.

Speaking after the case Detective Inspector Nick Barnes, from West Midlands Police, told BirminghamLive: "We are delighted Foran pleaded guilty to the murder of his girlfriend June. This was a horrific, cold blooded murder.

"He killed his girlfriend and then went on the run with the help of his friend Keith Dwyer. He has shown no remorse whatsoever for what he has done.

"June was the victim of domestic abuse and he had pleaded guilty to harassing her back in 2014. He was a controlling and callous individual.

"Her death had a devastating effect on her heartbroken family and we are just delighted justice has been done today."
