The hotel that featured in the 1990 film adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Witches is now looking to hire its very own Grand High Witch, having advertised the part-time position on its website as 'the person responsible for terrifying children and adults at The Headland'.

The Headland Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, is famous for being the eerie cliffside setting of the 1990 adaptation of Dahl's much-loved children's book, in which it was renamed the Hotel Excelsior.

Overlooking Fistral Beach, the imposing Victorian building was the seaside setting for the fantasy flick - the hotel not only welcoming young Luke and his grandmother as they holidayed, but also a convention of witches.

More than 30 years after hosting Anjelica Huston, Rowan Atkinson and co for filming, the Headland Hotel is hoping to play on its supernatural connections by hiring its very own Grand High Witch - played in The Witches by a terrifying Huston.

The role will require the chosen candidate to impersonate the Grand High Witch's key phrases, while also displaying her theatrical flair as they walk around the hotel interacting with guests, including engaging with children.

The job ad on the website says: "Can you cackle and make shivers run up spines, can you convince all around you that you will turn any children into mice?

"If so, we have a unique role that it unlikely to be found anywhere else in the world!

"Join our Afternoon Tea Team for October and get to terrify and delight all tea goers in equal amounts.

"We have a convincing Grand High Witch face mask, we just need someone with the cackle, accent and theatrical ability to bring the role to life for all The Witches fans who will be visiting for our Witches Full Afternoon Tea."

Thankfully, wannabe witches don't have to source their own mask and cape for the gig, as the hotel will provide a witch's outfit.

All they'll need is a suitable black outfit, and to be available between 1.30pm and 5pm on 2, 3, 9 and 10 October, and between 16 and 31 October.

In return for their hard work cackling, the successful candidate will be paid £9.10 per hour, along with service charge and a discretionary monthly bonus.

Director Veryan Palmer said: "The Witches is close to our hearts here at The Headland and every October, we like to celebrate the film with a spooky Afternoon Tea tribute.

"This year we'd like a Grand High Witch who will evoke the spectacular effect that Anjelica Huston created for her role of the Grand High Witch in Roald Dahl's The Witches."

If you think you fit the bill, simply head to the website to find out more about how to apply.
