A hotel in Essex has come up with a fun spin on the checking-in process, making guests complete an escape room challenge to access their room keys.

The Clockwork Hotel in Burnham-on-Crouch bills itself as an 'overnight experience you'll never forget', injecting a bit of fun into proceedings by getting visitors to track their keys down in just one hour.

You and your mates, family members or colleagues essentially book out the whole hotel, making it perfect for large gatherings (when those are allowed again, obviously) like stag dos, hen dos, birthdays and work trips.

Prices include exclusive hire of the hotel for one night, complete with the one-hour immersive experience, a three-course dinner, a glass of bubbly on arrival and an additional cocktail.

Booking is available for a minimum of 16 people and a maximum of 22, costing £110 per head between Sunday and Thursday and £150 on Friday and Saturday.

Two-night packages are also available at £175 and £250 per person, and the hotel also offers a 'midweek meet-up' option for £30 per person or evening parties for £60 per person.

"What would you do if you were handed the keys to your own hotel for a night?" The Clockwork Hotelwebsite says.

"Invite all your friends for a big dinner party, play the bartender, sip cocktails, snoop around the rooms, have the spa to yourselves... but here's the catch... you've got to find the keys first!

"You have one hour and the clock is ticking. Solve challenges and work together to unlock your own hotel. Discover rooms and hidden secrets and follow clues to win the ultimate prize!"

For anyone worried about whether or not the experience will be a bit too tricky - or scary - the website promises 'fun, Crystal Maze style puzzles while you race around the hotel in teams' - and if you don't manage to hunt down your key, fear not: you'll still be allowed to stay overnight.

Along with '11 beautiful bedrooms', the 'boutique hotel with a twist' also features a cocktail bar, spa with hot tub and sauna and comfortable living area with fireplace.
