It was really nice of Harry and Meghan to announce that they were expecting their first child on a gloomy Monday morning like today. As everyone was staring glumly into their Weetabix, bracing themselves for another week of work, rain and pretending that you're going to be good by going to the gym, the news gave us all a little boost to start things on a high.

But some people can't help but notice there's something a bit funny about the timing of the announcement - which comes immediately after this weekend's Royal wedding between Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

According to ITV's royal correspondent, Chris Ship, the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles were all 'able to congratulate' the expectant parents at the wedding on Friday, just before they jetted off to Australia for their first official overseas tour.

Social media users have since also spotted the timing, with one person tweeting: "How to take the shine off someone else's big day!! What an absolute masterstroke!!"

Another added: "Basic wedding etiquette: don't steal the bride's thunder. Not to mention, Eugenie had to postpone her own engagement for them!"

A third said: "So Harry and Meghan announced their pregnancy to family at Eugenie's wedding... Talk about steal her thunder."

Someone else commented: "Meghan and Harry announce baby news to family at the royal wedding on Friday .... way to go for stealing Eugenie's thunder lol."

Others, meanwhile, were just stoked for the parents-to-be, with one person tweeting: "This is fantastic news!!! Congrats to the Duke & Duchess!!"

Congratulating the couple, another said they will make 'amazing' parents.

Speculation had grown when Meghan arrived at Friday's wedding wearing a loose-fitting long coat.

But Kensington Palace confirmed the news this morning, saying in a statement: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019."

The statement added: "Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

The baby will be seventh in line to the throne.
