A huge new open-air club is opening in Manchester later this year.

Hoping to launch in time for the easing of lockdown restrictions, Square One is due to open in June.

It will have a full events programme, with weekly parties throughout the summer, in what the owners say is a 'beacon of light in the return to clubbing'.

It will run from the afternoon until 11pm, with a host of world renowned DJs already booked.

With all social distancing rules currently set to be lifted on Monday 21 June, Square One will get stuck in the following Saturday, 26 June.

The opening will feature Enzo Siragusa, with Mella Dee at the helm on the Sunday. Denis Sulta and Hot Since 82 are booked for July.

Planned for the rest of the summer are parties from Manchester promoters Zutekh, Northern Ireland's Jika Jika and PIV, a label based in Amsterdam.

The bosses of the venue said in a statement: "Manchester is our home. This one is for the dancers, a new venue with no-nonsense.

"Let's make up for the lost memories and come together, a good and proper open-air affair.

"Summer is coming and the dance floor is ready."

Partying in carparks is nothing new for Manchester, with the city's famous Warehouse Project once based at the one on Store Street, beneath Piccadilly station.

The government's roadmap out of lockdown means that clubs can open again on 21 June - if everything goes to plan. That will mean almost a year and a half since dance floors last closed for the final time.

A Leeds nightclub has taken it one step further, announcing plans to open their doors at 00.01 on 21 June as the UK's lockdown restrictions are set to ease.

Mint Warehouse revealed that the event - which is called 'System' - will be their Grand Reopening, posting on Facebook: "System - The Grand Reopening - Round 2 Monday 21st June - 00:01 am start Mint Warehouse."

System, which is the name of the reopening night, also took to social media to tell the Leeds public that there is 'no point messing about' with when it opens.

Their separate post reads: "Not point messing about were opening Sunday midnight! System - The Grand Reopening - Round 2 Monday 21st June - 00:01 am start Mint Warehouse Fingers crossed."

Many people have taken to Twitter to applaud the venue, with one writing: "Mint warehouse opening its doors at 00:01 on the 21st June is another reason why Leeds is the best city in this country."
