Hundreds Of Amazon Parcels Spill Over A27 After Lorry Crashes
An Amazon lorry has crashed on a motorway, causing hundreds of parcels to spill out onto the carriageway.
Shocking photos have been shared on social media showing the overturned lorry stretched across the central reservation and blocking traffic along the A27 near Emsworth, Hampshire.
According to reports, the 62-year-old driver of the lorry was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, with the driver of a separate vehicle, 50, said to have suffered a minor injury.
The crash happened at around 5.40am this morning (9 October).
It's understood that the route has now come to a standstill both east and westbound due to the incident near the Fishbourne Diversion A259 Havant.
Pictures show a long line of traffic close to the area, with dozens of cars waiting for the stretch of road to be cleared.
The local fire and rescue service has sent five crews to the scene and urged motorists to avoid the area as the recovery and clean-up operation is expected to take some time.
In a statement, the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "The crash involved one HGV and one car. Crews have released one person from the HGV using small tools.

"The driver of the other vehicle self-released prior to the fire and rescue service's attendance. Crews are now working to contain a diesel leak using environmental packs.
"The A27 is expected to remain closed for some time."
In a later update, the force added: "Our crews remain at the scene of this RTC on the A27. Both carriageways remain closed between Fishbourne and Warblington and are expected to remain closed for considerable time.
"Please avoid the area. Traffic is very busy on the parallel A259 in both directions."
A spokesperson for Sussex Road Police echoed this warning, adding: "The road is closed and will be for a number of hours - possibly most of the day. Please plan ahead.'
Sergeant Richard Hobbs of Sussex Roads Police, who is currently on the scene, added: "The road will be closed both Eastbound and Westbound for sometime due to the protracted recovery of the overturned HGV."
It's not yet clear what caused the crash.
