Hundreds of people queued to meet Father Christmas yesterday (Saturday 25 September), despite the fact that the festive season is still several months away.

Customers at Brigg Garden Centre, North Lincolnshire, were seen lining up yesterday morning as Christmas came early, eager to meet the big man and his missus while picking up some not-so-seasonal purchases.

Staff unveiled the winter wonderland as people queued from one end of the store to the other, having packed out the car park when doors opened.

For the special day, the garden centre was trading for 12 hours until 8pm, with customers filling their trollies with all kinds of Christmas decorations and paraphernalia - from trees, lights and gifts to Santa-inspired crockery baskets.

There were also 'must-see' Christmas displays for people to enjoy, with some including interactive features, while festive treats were on offer in the on-site restaurant.

While Father Christmas and his wife walked around the garden centre greeting customers and handing out sweets, a performer helped add to the spirit by singing Christmas songs as people browsed.

And it proved to be a popular event, with one staff member reporting the car park was 'packed' from 8am.

Staff even had to put out metal barriers for people to form an orderly queue outside at around midday.

Speaking about starting off the festive season, organiser Amy Stubbs said: "We are all so excited for this festive season.

"Christmas is our favourite time of year here in Brigg Garden Centre - it is a truly spectacular experience and you don't want to miss it."

Brigg Garden Centre is also planning a special Santa's Grotto event, which will take place in the run-up to Christmas.

In the meantime, those of you hoping to get your festive spirit on early doors can tune in to the new Christmas movie channel, which launched earlier this week.

GREAT! Movies Christmas premiered on 23 September, temporarily taking over the channel usually used by GREAT! Movies Classic until 4 January 2022.

According to the website UnderTheChristmasTree, the schedule includes everything from Yuletide classics to newer debuts - including Mariah Carey flick A Christmas Melody.

To access the free channel, simply tune in on Freeview 51, Sky 319, Virgin 424 and Freesat 303, before sitting back to enjoy some feel-good Christmas films.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the line-up for GREAT! Movies Christmas includes 'exclusive premieres such as A Christmas Melody, Just In Time For Christmas, Call Me Claus and Crazy For Christmas', with themed collections such as 'Christmas Presents' and 'Christmas Comedy Capers'.
