An 'incredibly reckless' woman dabbled with death when she ignored a railway crossing barrier and obliviously wandered over the tracks looking at the train.

The woman completely dismisses the warning signs telling her not to cross and casually strolls across the line.

The Mirror reports that she ended up stuck behind the fence at Barmouth railway station in Gwynedd, Wales.

Luckily, for the lady, the train had stopped a few yards before the crossing, which gave the driver time to put the barriers down... y'know, so nothing would get past and on to the tracks.

The woman however still wandered on to the track and in the direct line of the train ignoring any lights or warning sounds.

The woman didn't look like she was in a rush as she wandered on to the tracks.

A witness to the bizarre moment was waiting to catch the train that the woman walked in front of.

John Lewis told Wales Online: "I was at the station waiting to catch the 3.55pm train to Pwllheli and, as the barriers were starting to come down, the woman wandered onto the train track.

"She ignored the warnings and walked straight across. The train driver had stopped the train and had to get out to open the barriers to let her out."

And shockingly, this wasn't the first time Mr Lewis has seen an incident like this.

In August 2016, he saw a family of three rush onto the same track as a train was approaching.

He added: "That day it was a man, a woman and a young boy..

"The man ran through as the barrier was coming down and then beckoned his family through. They then ran onto the track before the barrier was fully down and ran off the other side."

The woman ended up waiting at the side and the driver got off the train.

A spokesman for the train operator - Transport for Wales - said: "The rail network, including public crossings, should always be treated with respect.

"It is never worth taking a risk with your life to save a few seconds. We are continuing to work closely with our partners in Network Rail and British Transport Police to promote safety on the railway."

British Transport Police have reiterated how hazardous it is to cross a railway line, with a spokeswoman explaining: "This shows how dangerous it can be to misuse a level crossing.

"Ignoring the warning signals and crossing when the barrier is down is incredibly reckless behaviour and this woman risked her life by doing so."
