Gender fluidity is gaining more awareness in western culture as more people who identify as non-binary speak up. The term refers to a person who doesn't identify as a boy or a girl, while gender fluid means a person's gender identity varies over time.
It can be a confusing concept for people who identify as male or female, because some can't understand how someone couldn't be one or the other. So parents Nikki and Louise Draven wanted to break down the barriers by going on This Morning and explaining how they want their son, Star, to pick his gender.
Louise was born a man, however, is transitioning to become a woman, while Nikki was born female but dresses in what people would consider 'male' and 'female' clothing, because she is non-binary. The pair don't want their kid to grow up feeling like he has to be a boy, even though he identifies as such.

"Basically, he knows biologically he's a boy but we don't want him to have the constrains of a gender yet. We want him to explore both sides of the spectrum and then decide when he's older," says Nikki.
Louise adds: "I think it's a case of allowing him to express himself. It's very common these days for men to walk around in salmon shirts, or some like to call it pink. By wearing that salmon shirt, it doesn't mean, 'Oh I'm feeling very feminine today'. No, it's just a case of, you've picked out a shirt that matches your outfit."
Their sentiments sparked a variety of comments on social media.

Host Eamonn Holmes asks the parents what their son has to gain from being brought up in this way, and uses a viewer's question: "How about just raising your child to be kind and good, why does the gender matter so much?"
But Louise says: "To help teach him better views, we've allowed him to have a broader spectrum."
